Our Story

The little studio with big heart

The Dance Collective is a boutique, intentionally one-room dance studio in Wake Forest, NC — where every dancer is known by name, families train with grace and grit, and ordinary just isn't us.

Studio Overview

Boutique by choice, big-hearted by nature

The Dance Collective is a boutique dance studio in Wake Forest, NC, in the heart of the Research Triangle, where dancers ages 2 through adult train in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, acro and pointe — recreational and competitive alike. Led by Owner & Artistic Director Erika Thompson, TDC leads with values, not just technique.

We're intentionally a one-room studio, and that size is the feature, not a limitation. It means every dancer is known by name, every family belongs, and no child is ever lost in the crowd. We like to call ourselves the little studio with big heart.

Our promise is simple: train with purpose and dance with heart. We're built for families with grace and grit — instilling confidence, character, discipline and joy that carry far beyond the studio. Because ordinary just isn't us.

What We Stand For

Our six core values

Six values shape every class we teach — the foundation of the little studio with big heart.

  • Community

A place where every dancer is known by name and every family belongs. Here, you're never a number on a roster — you're part of the collective.

  • Safety

Sound, age-appropriate technique and a thoughtfully cared-for space. Dancers progress at the right pace, in an environment built for their wellbeing.

  • Resilience

Grace and grit, in equal measure. We help dancers fall, try again and grow stronger — confidence that carries far beyond the studio.

  • Personal Growth

We train the whole dancer — character, confidence and discipline alongside technique — so every child leaves more capable than they came.

  • Modest Costuming

Age-appropriate, modest costuming families can feel good about, so dancers can shine on stage and parents can cheer with confidence.

  • Quality Programming

Expert instruction and intentional, well-built classes from ages 2 through adult — recreational and competitive, all under one roof.

More Than Dance Skills

What makes us different

  • Boutique by design

We're intentionally a one-room studio — and that's the feature, not a limitation. The little studio with big heart, where every dancer is seen, known and supported.

  • Values built in

Our six core values — community, safety, resilience, personal growth, modest costuming and quality programming — shape every class, not just our mission statement.

  • More than dance skills

We train with purpose and dance with heart. Dancers build confidence, discipline, teamwork and character that carry far beyond the studio doors.

  • Quality, expert instruction

A small, vetted faculty led by Owner & Artistic Director Erika Thompson teaches ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, acro and pointe with genuine care.

Meet the Team

Leadership & faculty

The Dance Collective is led by Owner & Artistic Director Erika Thompson, alongside a small, vetted faculty who bring warmth, expertise and a love of teaching to every age and stage.

Erika Thompson, Owner & Artistic Director

Erika Thompson

Owner & Artistic Director

The Dance Collective was founded by Erika Thompson on a simple conviction: that a dance studio could feel like a second home — small enough that every child is known by name, and serious enough to train dancers with real purpose.

As Owner & Artistic Director, Erika sets the tone for everything at TDC — leading with the studio's six core values and shaping classes that build confidence, character and craft in equal measure. She believes ordinary just isn't us, and it shows in the care she brings to every family who walks through the door.

Under her direction, TDC has grown into a boutique studio for families across Wake Forest and the greater Triangle — intentionally one room, with big heart, where dancers ages 2 through adult train with purpose and dance with heart.

We want every dancer to be known by name — to train with purpose, dance with heart, and leave more confident than they came.
