Frequently asked questions

Everything Wake Forest families ask us most, in one place — from first classes and trials to tuition, dress code and the competition team. The little studio with big heart. Don't see your question? Call 919-899-1289 or visit our contact page.

Getting Started

What age can my child start dance?

As young as 2 years old. Our Discover Creative Movement program welcomes dancers ages 2–5, and we offer classes for every age and stage all the way through adult — the little studio with big heart.

Do you offer a trial class?

Yes — book a trial to experience The Dance Collective before you enroll. It's the easiest way to meet our faculty, see our one-room studio, and find the class that fits your dancer.

Does my child need experience to start?

Not at all. First-timer or seasoned competitor, every dancer is met exactly where they are. Classes are grouped by our signature programs and age so everyone starts in the right place.

How do I register and enroll?

You can register online any time, or reach out and we'll help you find the right class. We'll place your dancer in the signature program that fits their age and stage, from Discover through Uplift.

Where is The Dance Collective located?

We're a boutique dance studio in Wake Forest, NC, serving families from Wake Forest, Rolesville, North Raleigh, Youngsville, Wakefield, Heritage and the surrounding Triangle area.

Classes & Programs

What styles of dance do you offer?

Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and acro, plus pointe for qualifying dancers — recreational through competitive. Dancers ages 2 through adult are all welcome.

How are your classes organized?

By our seven signature programs: Discover (ages 2–5), Spark (rising 1st–7th), Inspire (rising 7th–12th), Empower (train with the team), Thrive (competition company) and Uplift (adult classes). Each is designed to challenge and support dancers at exactly the stage they're in.

How big are your classes?

Small by design. As an intentionally one-room, boutique studio, we keep classes small so every dancer is known by name and seen in every class.

Do you offer adult classes?

Yes — our Uplift program offers welcoming adult dance classes for every level, focused on fitness, expression and joy. No experience required.

Competition & Company

Do you have a competition team?

Yes — our Thrive Competition Company is our competitive track, for dancers committed to performance, growth and the stage. Our Empower program lets dancers train with the team and build technique without the pressure to commit to a full competitive track.

How does a dancer join the company?

Most dancers grow into the company through our recreational programs and the Empower train-with-the-team experience. Each company dancer has a plan and schedule designed for them. Reach out and we'll talk through the pathway that fits your dancer.

Tuition & Registration

How much does tuition cost?

Monthly tuition is based on how many hours your dancer takes each week, with multi-class and family discounts available. See our Tuition page for how pricing works and what's included; exact current rates are confirmed at registration.

Are there other fees beyond tuition?

There's an annual registration fee per dancer, plus costume and recital fees for our year-end performance. We keep costs transparent and modest — full details are on the Tuition page and shared at registration.

What is your make-up and withdrawal policy?

We do our best to accommodate make-up classes when a dancer misses a session — just contact the studio. Full enrollment, withdrawal and payment policies are shared at registration and in your parent portal.

Dress Code & Costuming

What should my dancer wear to class?

Each style has a simple dress code — generally a leotard and tights with the correct shoes, and hair secured back. See our Dress Code page for what's needed by program and style.

What is your approach to costumes?

Modest costuming is one of our six core values. We intentionally choose age-appropriate, modest costumes so every dancer and family feels comfortable on stage.

Studio Community

Are classes open to boys and girls?

Absolutely. The Dance Collective is a welcoming community where every dancer belongs — all are welcome in every program.

What makes The Dance Collective different?

We're a boutique, intentionally one-room studio built on six core values — community, safety, resilience, personal growth, modest costuming and quality programming — where dancers grow in grace, grit and real technique. The little studio with big heart.
